“If you get a random call from a help desk, all alarm bells should go off. You are at risk of becoming a victim of the Tech Support Scam.” says Rotterdam cyber public prosecutor Jacqueline Bonnes.
The Tech Support Scam was one of the most common forms of crime in the Netherlands between 2011 and 2017. The damage ran into millions of euros. Reason for the Public Prosecution Service and the National Police to stop these criminals. They did this by joining forces with companies from the private sector. Such as banks and telecom corporations and tech companies such as Microsoft. The project gained international fame under the name The Rotterdam Initiative. The collaboration ensured that the growth of the TSS has stopped and the damage has been reduced by 59%.
This documentary (15 min) not only tells how the parties of the Rotterdam Intentive have worked together, but also how you can become a victim of TSS and what you can do about it.
